We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Infrastructure team in building a world-class foundation upon which the rest of our company is built. As we continue to scale, we’re looking for someone excited about the intersection of people management and infrastructure to help us manage that growth.

What you'll do:

Manage processes to help the team execute effectively, collaborate with other teams, and deliver high-quality software
Partner with recruiting to attract and develop great engineers, helping them do challenging and impactul work at Shift
Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Shift’s engineering management team
Collaborate with our CTO, the team, and the rest of engineering to craft and communicate a focused technical roadmap
Foster a healthy, collaborative, and impact-focused team culture
Take ownership of critical technical and business outcomes

What we ask for:

1+ year experience managing an engineering team
5+ years of experience building, scaling, and maintaining production back-end systems
Past success leading and launching business-critical projects
Proficient in architecture and system design
A general customer focus when leading teams and projects
Ability to solicit, organize, and communicate goals and a roadmap for a team and its individual members and support the team in delivering on that roadmap
Experience partnering with recruiting to interview engineers, while onboarding and mentoring new team members
A pragmatic and optimistic approach to technical challenges
BS, MS, and/or PhD in Computer Science or similar, or equivalent practical experience
Nice to have:
Experience building distributed systems
Experience working in DevOps and/or SRE
Experience working with modern Frontend technologies like React and Typescript
Familiarity with Golang, AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and/or PostgreSQL

RESPONSIBILITIES - Ideate, develop and iterate upon new and existing features for the MakersPlace creator platform and consumer marketplace. - Build, scale and maintain our blockchain infrastructure including smart contracts, managed wallets, and security. As a Senior Developer and team lead, you are responsible for working closely with our PM and other developers to interpret technical requirements, write and maintain effective and scalable code, maintain code quality of others through code reviews, organizing and automating syncing of data between third-party applications, designing a strategic vision of how our application will be developed with data architectural decisions, writing/testing the application for performance, responsiveness and security, as well as documenting feature functionality and creating reports for internal and non-technical team members.

You will also lead and manage 3-4 developers through tasks such as providing guidance when they are blocked, weekly pair-programming sessions, explanation of best practices, bi-weekly 1:1s, etc. You are responsible for the development of our junior developers to make progress each week and help them excel in their role and be on the way to become senior developers. Managing other developers should take up to 30% of your time, while 70% will be spent on development/leadership tasks.
